This page is dedicated to the millions of four legged soldiers that died for the freedom and rights of the millions of people who are living today. It was a war like no other, because it was on American soil, fought by men and boys who knew each other or were related. Men and boys who live on either side of the invisible line that separated the 48 states. Men who didn't know each other, but became comrade in arms and brothers in blood in the end. This war was fought on the back of horses. Those animals that had no choice, but stood next to their riders through thick and thin. Mules and draft horses that carried supplies and cannons and the wounded to those in need. If it wasn't for the horse and mule and occasional oxen then the Civil War would have turned out to be much different.
Out of the 620,000 soldiers that died at the end of the war there were 1.5 million horses and mules and oxen that died beside them. These horses and mules and oxen never asked to be in the war. And some of you who do not understand the bond between the horse and man this is a wake up call. When you bond with a horse you ARE NOT the master. Instead you are partners with that horse. A bond of trust, respect and love are united when you have a horse. There are many stories of heroic horses in history defending their owners/riders. And horses and mules are still being treated with disrespect and are butchered everyday. Horses and mules have helped men all through history and many times they have just been pushed aside like they don't matter. Here in the United States we do have several monuments to show our appreciation to the horse and his efforts with man. He has fought next to us, protected us, cared for us and loved us unconditionally. This section is in dedication to those horses of the past and those who are from their bloodlines! So the next time you see a horse in a pasture you may want to roll down your window and say Thank You!
